Clark Gibson
Clark was born in Denver in
the year 1979. The world would never be the same.
When Clark was 12 years old, he began playing the saxophone in school bands.
How did he get into jazz? "That's all you can do with a damn saxophone," he
said.
By age 14, he knew that music
was his career. After lots of practice, he started freelancing
and sitting in at jam sessions. He toured with the Tommy Dorsey big band for several
months,
learning to swing with much older, more experienced players. In Port Arthur, Texas, Clark
joined
Edgar Winter's horn section for a show.
His musical travels have taken
him to Utah, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina,
Georgia, Alabama and most points in between.
He lists his primary influences as Charlie Parker (who he calls "The grandfather of
bebop")
Cannonball Adderly, Sonny Rollins, Stanley Turrentine, Coltrane, Miles Davis and Bill
Evans.
"Maceo Parker is the grandfather of the funk saxophone, too," Clark said.
