Jerry
Hermosillo, a Denver native, has been playing guitar for 17 years and
started singing (outside of the shower) when he started high school.
Music was all around Jerry growing up and he relished being able to
listen to his father, grandfather, grandmother and uncles play
together in their family band. Inspired by his father, who
taught him his first guitar chord.
Jerry fell in love
with the guitar music in the movie “Crossroads” and has been teaching
himself how to play ever since. Playing mostly heavy metal and punk
in the early days, Jerry and a few of his classmates started their own
band and immediately started writing their own music. It was then that
he realized how much he enjoyed playing in front of a live audience.
Jerry has
gradually broadened his musical styles and has been heavily influenced
by bands such as Living Colour, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Steely Dan,
just to name a few. Jerry first began playing with Jason Torres (his
cousin) in high school. Then in the fall of 1998, Jerry’s former
band, Upper Hand, was born with the help of their Uncle Sam, and his
good friend Tom. Upper Hand enjoyed
modest success and played at some of the best clubs and festivals
around Denver. The release of their CD Project 71 in 2002
stands out the most for Jerry. “Being able to actually see the
results of your hard work in your hands is an incredible feeling, and
there is nothing quite like it.” Jerry uses a Guild Bluesbird Guitar,
a Roland JC 120, and Line 6 effects when he performs. Jerry joined
Buckner Funken Jazz and adds a style to the band that is uniquely his own.
